Hi, all you animal lovers! This is pretty simple… please reblog this along! The Animal Rescue Site is having trouble getting enough people to click on it daily so they can meet their quota of getting FREE FOOD donated every day to abused and neglected animals in their shelters.
It takes less than a minute (only about 15 seconds actually) to go to their site and click on the purple box titled, ‘Click Here to Give - it’s FREE!’. From one click, which you can do DAILY, it gives around 6 bowls of food to sheltered dogs.
Keep in mind that this does not cost you a thing. Their corporate sponsors/advertisers use the number of daily visits to donate food to abandoned/neglected animals in exchange for advertising. Here’s the web site! Please pass this along!

Roger Ebert evaluates perfectly!

AVATAR THE LAST AIR BENDER.

BY ROGER EBERT / June 30, 2010
“The Last Airbender” is an agonizing experience in every category I can think of and others still waiting to be invented. The laws of chance suggest that something should have gone right. Not here. It puts a nail in the coffin of low-rent 3D, but it will need a lot more coffins than that. Let’s start with the 3D, which was added as an afterthought to a 2D movie. Not only is it unexploited, unnecessary and hardly noticeable, but it’s a disaster even if you like 3D. M. Night Shyamalan’s retrofit produces the drabbest, darkest, dingiest movie of any sort I’ve seen in years. You know something is wrong when the screen is filled with flames that have the vibrancy of faded Polaroids. It’s a known fact that 3D causes a measurable decrease in perceived brightness, but “Airbender” looks like it was filmed with a dirty sheet over the lens. Now for the movie itself. The first fatal decision was to make a live-action film out of material that was born to be anime. The animation of the Nickelodeon TV series drew on the bright colors and “clear line” style of such masters as Miyazaki, and was a pleasure to observe. It’s in the very nature of animation to make absurd visual sights more plausible.  Since “Airbender” involves the human manipulation of the forces of air, earth, water and fire, there is hardly an event that can be rendered plausibly in live action. That said, its special effects are atrocious. The first time the waterbender Katara summons a globe of water, which then splashes (offscreen) on her brother Sokka, he doesn’t even get wet.  Firebenders’ flames don’t seem to really burn, and so on. The story takes place in the future, after Man has devastated the planet and survives in the form of beings with magical powers allowing them to influence earth, water and fire. These warring factions are held in uneasy harmony by the Avatar, but the Avatar has disappeared, and Earth lives in a state of constant turmoil caused by the warlike Firebenders. Our teenage heroes Katara and Sokka discover a child frozen in the ice. This is Aang (Noah Ringer), and they come to suspect he may be the Avatar, or Last Airbender. Perhaps he can bring harmony and quell the violent Firebenders. This plot is incomprehensible, apart from the helpful orientation that we like Katara, Sokka and Aang and are therefore against their enemies.  The dialogue is couched in unspeakable quasi-medieval formalities; the characters are so portentous they seem to have been trained for grade school historical pageants. Their dialogue is functional and action-driven. There is little conviction that any of this might be real even in their minds. All of the benders in the movie appear only in terms of their attributes and functions, and contain no personality.  Potentially interesting details are botched. Consider the great iron ships of the Firebenders. These show potential as Steampunk, but are never caressed for their intricacies. Consider the detail Miyazaki lavished on Howl’s Moving Castle. Trying sampling a Nickelodeon clip from the original show to glimpse the look that might have been. After the miscalculation of making the movie as live action, there remained the challenge of casting it. Shyamalan has failed. His first inexplicable mistake was to change the races of the leading characters; on television Aang was clearly Asian, and so were Katara and Sokka, with perhaps Mongolian and Inuit genes. Here they’re all whites. This casting makes no sense because (1) It’s a distraction for fans of the hugely popular TV series, and (2) all three actors are pretty bad. I don’t say they’re untalented, I say they’ve been poorly served by  Shyamalan and the script. They are bland, stiff, awkward and unconvincing. Little Aang reminds me of Wallace Shawn as a child. This is not a bad thing (he should only grow into Shawn’s shoes), but doesn’t the role require little Andre, not little Wally? As the villain, Shyamalan has cast Cliff Curtis as Fire Lord Ozai and Dev Patel (the hero of “Slumdog Millionaire”) as his son Prince Zuko. This is all wrong. In material at this melodramatic level, you need teeth-gnashers, not leading men. Indeed, all of the acting seems inexplicably muted. I’ve been an admirer of many of Shyamalan’s films, but action and liveliness are not his strong points. I fear he takes the theology of the Bending universe seriously. As “The Last Airbender” bores and alienates its audiences, consider the opportunities missed here. (1) This material should have become an A-list animated film. (2) It was a blunder jumping aboard the 3D bandwagon with phony 3D retro-fitted to a 2D film. (3) If it had to be live action, better special effects artists should have been found. It’s not as if films like “2012” and “Knowing” didn’t contain “real life” illusions as spectacular as anything called for in “The Last Airbender.” I close with the hope that the title proves prophetic.

there supposed to be asians -.-

Katara and Socko or whatever are supposed to be dark. What the fuck dude. djfndxkjgn h8 lyf.

for that reason exactly, this movie will be bad. All the actors are suppose to be asian. ASIAN, not white/indian

They’re not supposed to be Asian. This cartoon is not set in any Asian country. Avatar: The Last Airbender never even mentions the races of the characters. This isn’t an anime like Dragon Ball where you expect them to be Asian. I think they did a great job with the casting. The movie Aang looks too somber, imo. Aang has a permasmile and is incredibly hyperactive in the animated series. Overall, though, I think the casting is great. I hope the movie doesn’t let me down.

Actually I think they’re all suppose to be from the Asian continent.  I remember the Earth kingdom looking a lot like Qing period China, Air kingdom like Tibet, Water tribes like the eskimos, and Fire like a combination of modern China and Imperial Japan.  And if you look it up, they draw from mostly Asian/Indian influences.  And how can you not expect them to be Asian?  The show opens up with Chinese characters flying left and right!  I think the casting is absolutely horrible.  M. Night Shalaman better have done a good job with this movie or there will be a lot of hell to pay.

There are four characters pictured up there, two of them are white, and they are, if this cartoon were reality, which it is not, supposed to be Eskimos. They look like Eskimos to me. I don’t see anything wrong with casting them as Eskimos. And if we are going to want every character to be depicted according to the ethnicity we believe them to be and what influences are drawn from in the animated series, Dev Patel is Indian, what is the problem casting him as Prince Zuko? After all, how can an actor look exactly like the cartoon; that’s impossible. The only problem I see would be casting Noah Ringer as Aang; he doesn’t seem to be embody Aang to me, but according to other articles I’ve read he was chosen for his skills in martial arts. I think people have started to cry wolf way too soon. Does anybody even know if any of the other characters played are played by Asian actors? There are only four actors pictured up there. That is not enough to say the entire movie is going to suck.

You’re right, I may have jumped the gun too soon and judged them prematurely.  But, first impressions are everything.  And I’m clearly not impressed by this cast.  If they do not bring through the personalities of the animated characters to the big screen, I’ll be very disappointed.  If they do not do the a similar style of martial arts in the movie as in the animated series, I’ll be disappointed to.
Because Avatar has grown in popularity, you have to expect people to be critical.  People have an image coming from the animated series, and they expect that to cross over to the big screen.  Of course people aren’t going to look exactly like the cartoons, but they could at least try!  And if they do have talent, then have them put on some make-up or something.  This movie isn’t suppose to be a director interpretation, because what is there to actually interpret?  And I swear if there is a twist at the end, I’ll freak.
Of course I’ll be the same way when the World of Warcraft movie comes out, but then again that’s directed by Sam Raimi, and not the ‘horror’ movie director M. Night Shalaman.

First of all why would they give this movie to M. Night,  the guy has had some of the most horrible movies out lately. Second everything in this show was based off of asian culture.  You can even youtube some creator commentaries and they specifically state what parts of asian culture they got it from.  In fact everything Spencywency said is, if not mostly, accurate.  So for all you people who don’t do your research before looking like a complete idiot in front of everybody and arguing…. well actually thats it, you just look like idiots.  Last I’m all for a creative twinge on a movie based off a anime or cartoon or even a video game but it can not be changed this drastically.  Plain and simple the casting was done horribly, the imagery was done horribly, and this will put a complete stopper to a live action movie series of Avatar the last air bender. Oh and the whole point of a live action is to recreate the fake into a reality like show, meaning the character should better portray there counter parts even down to ethnicity.  Everything in this movie is very out of place.
