there supposed to be asians -.-
Katara and Socko or whatever are supposed to be dark. What the fuck dude. djfndxkjgn h8 lyf.
for that reason exactly, this movie will be bad. All the actors are suppose to be asian. ASIAN, not white/indian
They’re not supposed to be Asian. This cartoon is not set in any Asian country. Avatar: The Last Airbender never even mentions the races of the characters. This isn’t an anime like Dragon Ball where you expect them to be Asian. I think they did a great job with the casting. The movie Aang looks too somber, imo. Aang has a permasmile and is incredibly hyperactive in the animated series. Overall, though, I think the casting is great. I hope the movie doesn’t let me down.
Actually I think they’re all suppose to be from the Asian continent. I remember the Earth kingdom looking a lot like Qing period China, Air kingdom like Tibet, Water tribes like the eskimos, and Fire like a combination of modern China and Imperial Japan. And if you look it up, they draw from mostly Asian/Indian influences. And how can you not expect them to be Asian? The show opens up with Chinese characters flying left and right! I think the casting is absolutely horrible. M. Night Shalaman better have done a good job with this movie or there will be a lot of hell to pay.
There are four characters pictured up there, two of them are white, and they are, if this cartoon were reality, which it is not, supposed to be Eskimos. They look like Eskimos to me. I don’t see anything wrong with casting them as Eskimos. And if we are going to want every character to be depicted according to the ethnicity we believe them to be and what influences are drawn from in the animated series, Dev Patel is Indian, what is the problem casting him as Prince Zuko? After all, how can an actor look exactly like the cartoon; that’s impossible. The only problem I see would be casting Noah Ringer as Aang; he doesn’t seem to be embody Aang to me, but according to other articles I’ve read he was chosen for his skills in martial arts. I think people have started to cry wolf way too soon. Does anybody even know if any of the other characters played are played by Asian actors? There are only four actors pictured up there. That is not enough to say the entire movie is going to suck.
You’re right, I may have jumped the gun too soon and judged them prematurely. But, first impressions are everything. And I’m clearly not impressed by this cast. If they do not bring through the personalities of the animated characters to the big screen, I’ll be very disappointed. If they do not do the a similar style of martial arts in the movie as in the animated series, I’ll be disappointed to.
Because Avatar has grown in popularity, you have to expect people to be critical. People have an image coming from the animated series, and they expect that to cross over to the big screen. Of course people aren’t going to look exactly like the cartoons, but they could at least try! And if they do have talent, then have them put on some make-up or something. This movie isn’t suppose to be a director interpretation, because what is there to actually interpret? And I swear if there is a twist at the end, I’ll freak.
Of course I’ll be the same way when the World of Warcraft movie comes out, but then again that’s directed by Sam Raimi, and not the ‘horror’ movie director M. Night Shalaman.
First of all why would they give this movie to M. Night, the guy has had some of the most horrible movies out lately. Second everything in this show was based off of asian culture. You can even youtube some creator commentaries and they specifically state what parts of asian culture they got it from. In fact everything Spencywency said is, if not mostly, accurate. So for all you people who don’t do your research before looking like a complete idiot in front of everybody and arguing…. well actually thats it, you just look like idiots. Last I’m all for a creative twinge on a movie based off a anime or cartoon or even a video game but it can not be changed this drastically. Plain and simple the casting was done horribly, the imagery was done horribly, and this will put a complete stopper to a live action movie series of Avatar the last air bender. Oh and the whole point of a live action is to recreate the fake into a reality like show, meaning the character should better portray there counter parts even down to ethnicity. Everything in this movie is very out of place.
